What’s Inside a Professional Brow Lamination Kit (and Why At-Home Kits Fall Short)

Every week someone asks us which brow lamination kit to buy. Search “brow lamination kit” and you’ll find thousands of options, from $20 boxes at the drugstore to full salon systems. Most of them are made for one person laminating their own brows at home. That’s a very different job from laminating ten different clients a week, and the kit you work from should reflect it.

We’ve done brow lamination in our own salons for years, and our course was built from more than 1,000 real brow services. The kit we send our students is the one we use. Below, we open it up piece by piece: what a professional brow lamination kit should include, what each step actually does, how it compares with an at-home kit, what it costs per client, and how to store it so every sachet works the way it should.

The short answer: a professional brow lamination kit gives you three single-use steps (lift, set and nourish), a glue, and the tools to place each hair, with enough product for 10 clients. Ours is $125 on its own, or included with our $265 Brow Lamination Course.

Does owning a professional kit make you a brow lamination pro?

No, and it’s worth clearing up before we open the box. A pro kit gives you the right products. Training gives you the skill to use them safely. Your state decides whether you also need a license to offer the service to paying clients.

What our course gives you

A certificate

Proof that you completed professional brow lamination training, including health and safety, patch testing and the full hands-on service.

What most states also require

A license

Usually an esthetics or cosmetology license from your state board. The rules vary from state to state, so check yours before you take paying clients.

Not sure where your state stands? Our certification and licensing guide breaks it down.

What should a professional brow lamination kit include?

A pro kit has two jobs: give you the same chemistry every time, and give you the tools to place each hair exactly where you want it. Here’s what’s in ours, and what each piece does during a service.

Step 1 · 10 sachets

Lift lotion

Softens the bonds inside each brow hair so you can brush it into a new direction. It does the heaviest work in the service, and it’s the step where timing matters most.

Step 2 · 10 sachets

Setting lotion

Rebuilds those bonds in their new position, so the shape you brushed in holds for the 6 to 8 weeks clients expect.

Step 3 · 10 sachets

Nourishing serum

A leave-on conditioner. It lifts off leftover glue or tint residue and puts moisture back into hairs that just went through two chemical steps.

1 bottle

Lash & brow glue

A clear, water-based glue that holds the hairs in place while the lotions work, so your shape doesn’t drift halfway through.

Tools

Pro tool, spoolies, micro-swabs

The pro tool lifts and places hairs one section at a time. Spoolies brush and set the shape. Micro-swabs apply lotion exactly where you want it and clean the edges.

Bonus for lashes

Shields and under-eye pads

Three silicone shield sizes plus under-eye pads for lash lifts. The same kit covers both services, which is why salons offering both get more out of it.

How does each step work? The chemistry in plain English

Brow lamination is a controlled two-step chemical process followed by a conditioning step, and pH tells you a lot about what each one is doing. The scale runs from 0 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline), with 7 as neutral.

0 · acidic7 · neutral14 · alkaline
Step 1 · Lift lotionpH 9 to 9.5
Step 2 · Setting lotionpH 6 to 6.5
Step 3 · Nourishing serumpH 5 to 6

The lift lotion is alkaline and thioglycolate-based. Alkaline lotions swell the hair slightly and break the bonds that hold its shape, which is exactly why timing matters: too short and the hairs spring back, too long and they turn dry and frizzy. The setting lotion uses low-strength hydrogen peroxide (1 to 3 percent in our kit) to rebuild those bonds in the new direction. The nourishing serum is mildly acidic, closer to the hair’s natural range, and helps smooth things down after the chemistry.

Those numbers come from our manufacturer’s product data. When you compare kits, ask any brand for the same information. A supplier that can’t tell you what’s in each step, or how to store it, is telling you something.

Professional kit vs. at-home brow lamination kit: what’s the difference?

At-home kits aren’t bad products. They’re built for a different situation: one person, one set of brows, a few uses spread over several months. Here’s how the two compare once you’re working on clients.

Professional kit

Built for: many clients, back to back

Format: single-use sachets, a fresh dose for every client

Quantity: 10 full services per kit

Timing: learned in training and adjusted for hair type and thickness

Tools: pro tool, spoolies, micro-swabs and glue

Safety info: full ingredient lists, a safety sheet and a patch-test protocol

At-home kit

Built for: one person treating their own brows

Format: usually tubes or bottles reused over several sessions

Quantity: typically a handful of applications

Timing: one general time printed on the box

Tools: often a single brush or wand

Safety info: ingredients and directions on the box

The packaging point matters more than it looks. Thioglycolate lotions react with air once they’re opened, so a tube that has been opened and closed for weeks won’t behave like a fresh one. A sealed sachet per client means the fifth client of your week gets the same strength as the first, and consistent strength is what makes your timing reliable.

How much does a professional brow lamination kit cost per client?

Here’s the math with our own prices, since a vague “high profit” promise doesn’t help anyone plan a business.

Your first kit$125 ÷ 10 services = $12.50 per client
Refills after that3 ten-packs × $28 = $84 ÷ 10 = $8.40 per client
What clients pay$75 to $125 per brow lamination

On refills, you keep about $66.60 to $116.60 per client before your time and overhead.

Our Brow Lamination Course costs $265 and includes the full kit (a $125 value). At $95 a service, about four clients cover the whole course. At $75 it takes five, and at $125 it takes three. Appointments run 30 to 45 minutes, and clients usually come back every 6 to 8 weeks, which is where steady income comes from. How should you store and handle a brow lamination kit?

Good chemistry stored badly turns into unpredictable chemistry. These are the habits we teach every student.

Fridge
too cold
41 to 68°F
cool, dry, shaded
Warm room, car
too warm
  • Store unopened sachets somewhere cool, dry and shaded. A fridge is too cold, and a sunny shelf or a hot car is too warm.
  • Massage each sachet before opening it, then use it right away. Every sachet is single use.
  • Check the 12-month shelf life on the box and move older stock to the front.
  • Patch test 48 to 72 hours before a client’s first appointment, and again after a long break between treatments.
  • Wear gloves, and keep every lotion away from the eyes. Prep matters too: here’s why cleansing is the most skipped step in brow lamination.
  • Keep the safety information on file in your salon. Ours is here: Product safety information (PDF).

Brow lamination kit FAQs

What comes in a professional brow lamination kit?

Ours includes 10 single-use sachets each of lift lotion, setting lotion and nourishing serum, a clear water-based glue, a pro tool, 5 spoolies and 5 micro-swabs. It also includes 3 silicone shield sizes and under-eye pads for lash lifts. That’s enough for 10 full services.

How many clients can you do with one brow lamination kit?

Our kit covers 10 full services. Refill packs for each step come in tens at $28 each, so restocking works out to about $8.40 per client.

Can you use an at-home brow lamination kit on clients?

At-home kits are designed for one person to use on themselves, usually with reusable tubes and one general timing. For paying clients, use a professional kit with single-use sachets, get trained, and check your state’s licensing rules.

Do you need a license to use a professional brow lamination kit?

It depends on your state. Our course gives you a certificate of training, and many states also require an esthetics or cosmetology license to offer brow lamination to paying clients. Check with your state board before you take clients.

How long does a brow lamination kit last?

Unopened sachets have a 12-month shelf life when stored between 41 and 68°F, out of direct sunlight. Each sachet is single use, so open it right before you need it.

Can the same kit be used for lash lifts and brow lamination?

Yes. The same three steps work for both services. The silicone shields and under-eye pads in our kit are for lash lifts, so salons that offer both get more from one kit.
